During the global pandemic, everyone has been forced to apply some difficult changes to their daily lives. One of these changes includes working from home, which has definitely affected everyone especially those who deal with mental health issues. Not everyone can adjust their daily routines, from spending all their time doing everything from home yet still not being able to go out as often as we were able to before the pandemic hit. As a team who are currently working from home, we thought it would be helpful to give advice to those who might be struggling and need help.
Creating a workspace to suit your needs
Due to the pandemic, some companies have had to change their staff to work from home, which isn’t an easy adjustment for people who are used to going out to the office everyday and interacting with people face to face. In order to keep yourself from falling down that rabbit hole and staying in bed all day; create a small workspace for you to work. This will help you stay in the right frame of mind as well as separate your home and work space.
Adjusting your daily routine
Due to not being in the office, you may need to change your routine to fit around doing work from home. For instance, if you are someone who is used to talking to your fellow co-workers every day at the office, you may need to rely on apps such as Zoom or Microsoft teams to be able to keep in contact with everyone and you won’t feel so alone.
If you are someone who is used to background music, you could create a playlist that can help motivate you to work better, especially since you need to stick to your productivity times; working remotely could change to shorter or longer hours depending on the company.
Don’t forget to give yourself a break
Working from home means that there might be some distractions like watching Netflix or staying in bed longer but you’ll still have to meet deadlines. Taking breaks is good as everyone needs time to stretch their legs but you could use this time to go out on a walk for some fresh air, read a book or listen to some podcasts that could be related to dealing with the pandemic. Writing could also help those who are struggling to deal with their feelings as writing in journals help me get my thoughts out of my head.
Discover the benefits of remote working
Although everyone is still dealing with remote working and isn’t finding it easy, we can all take this time to find the benefits of this situation for ourselves.
There are things that can help balance your work-life and help make it more manageable for you like taking the time to exercise as yoga can be a relief for those who really struggle, you won’t have to spend time and money on traveling back and forth from work, or you can take this time after work hours to figure out a new hobby like taking a virtual cooking class or making a funny TikTok for your own entertainment.
People don’t know who to go to during times like this but understand that everyone is going through the same thing as you and there are always people you can still talk to and let’s all hope that things won’t be like this forever and that they’ll change for the better.
